Your Podcast Website

Now that you’ve figured out what your podcast is going to be about and you have a logo and branding established, it’s time to put them together to create your podcast website.

Picking a Website Platform

There are many website platforms to pick from, including WordPress, Joomla, Squarespace, etc… Luckily, the decision is easy, use WordPress.

WordPress and the WordPress.org community have evolved in a way that universally makes it the most popular blogging and content management system (CMS) in the world. Being free, open source and exceptionally popular, it can be found in about every Web hosting provider’s easy-to-install menu.

Because podcasting is nothing more than an extension to blogging, using WordPress also comes naturally for the podcast publishing process.

Picking a Web Host

Picking a Web hosting provider appropriate for WordPress and podcasting is not so easy. If you do not have a website already Blubrry provides all customers a free managed WordPress site that is completely podcast-ready.

Want to go it alone we recommend consulting with our team, your friends, colleagues, or your server administrator about who they recommend for WordPress hosting. So as long as the Web hosting has a good track record and allows for installing any plugin and theme hosted on WordPress.org, you should be OK.

We do not recommend hosting your podcast at WordPress.com (note the dot com). Even though this WordPress hosting is top-notch, it severely limits the number of plugins you can install which limits your podcast to pre-2005 standards. You cannot install the Blubrry PowerPress podcasting plugin on the free WordPress.com.

Domain Name

You may find that you can purchase your domain name along with your media hosting. Though this makes setting up your website easy, we recommend that you manage your domain name through a separate account from a reputable domain service such as GoDaddy.

Your Domain name may be the hardest thing to come up with. You do not have to delay launching your show if you do not have a domain name. With the free WordPress hosting at Blubrry you can apply your domain name after you launch your show with our PowerPress Sites Deluxe product.

Install WordPress on Web Hosting

Consult with the Web hosting provider you selected to learn how to install WordPress on your website. Most sites allow for automated installation through the web host provider dashboard.
